Part 1

Sitting against a broken wall and nursing an injured arm, Kady desperately looked around for ammo for her BR55HB SR Battle Rifle. She had less than a mag left and Covenant Grunts were approching fast in a standard wedge formation. Normally an ODST could defeat 20 Grunts easily but Kady's armor was cracked and burned from plasma bolts and her arm was bleeding badly. As if that weren't enough, her helmet's viewscreen was cracked and she could bearly see a thing. She pulled it off with her good arm and waited for Death to make his appearance.

Suddenly she heard the Grunts squeal in fear as the unmistakable sound of an M7/Caseless Submachine Gun fired. Then they were quiet. Kady heard heavy footsteps in the gravel coming toward her. She lifted her Battle Rifle and used a rock stuck deep in the ground to help her arm it. The body of a Grunt was tossed to the ground next to her and around the corner came a 7 foot tall human donned in light blue and grey armor. Kady looked at the SPARTAN's Trojan-looking Close Quarters Battle helmet and the high tech Extra Vehicular Activity chestplate and shoulder pauldrons.

"Do you need a hand?" he asked her. Kady didn't know he was male until he spoke for there was almost no distinction between the armor of a male and female SPARTAN.
"I...yes. Thank you." Most Orbital Drop Shock Troopers couldn't stand SPARTANs. The ODSTs were the best of the best. They were heros. Every child wanted to be one. Then Catherine Halsey created supersoldiers. Given special armor that didn't crack, didn't give way to anything smaller than a nuke dropped on top of it. Most of Kady's squad felt this way but she had always been attracted in a way by the human tanks. They were mysterious and hardly ever spoke. To hear one offering her help seemed like a dream.

The SPARTAN suddenly looked away and pointed his SMG into the dust cloud that had formed from the fighting. A figure appeared walking slowly toward them, silouetted the filtered light. He lifted his hand slightly and Kady could see a twisted piece of metal in its grasp. With unimaginable speed it sprinted toward them and activated an energy sword. The SPARTAN oped fire on the Sangheili, or, as most humans called them, Elite. The bullets splashed against its energy shield but the alien was too fast and swung it sword of crackling plasma at the SPARTAN. He lifted his SMG to block the blow and it was sheared cleanly in half. The SPARTAN nimbly dodged to the side and spun the Elite around with one hand and with the other he grabbed its neck and snapped it.

Kady stared in awe at the soldier's grace while wearing armor that weighed over a ton. He offered her his hand again and she took it. Instead of helping her stand however he swung her into his arms and carried her through the dust.
